Roderick Joseph O'Connor W7EKV died January 25, 2024, in Scottsdale Arizona at the age of 91, holding the hand of his beloved wife of 67 years. He was born on Long Island and grew up in rural NY with his parents, Robert and Mildred O'Connor. Rod attended Union College, NY and SUNY, Alfred. He worked at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey where he met Dorothy. They married in 1956. Rod served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and taught Communications Theory at West Point. He moved from IBM to Motorola in 1961. In 1967 he moved with the company to Phoenix. He was an avid HAM radio operator (W7EKV) throughout his life. He also enjoyed chess, fishing and hearing & telling good jokes. Rod never met a dog he didn't pet. His charisma, humor and love for his family radiated through his 1000-watt smile. Rod's center of gravity was his Catholic faith which served as the framework for his life. He is survived by his loving family: his wife Dorothy and their four children, Darryl (Yoko), Kate, Colleen (Dan), and Diane (Will), seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The memorial service will be held on Monday, March 4, at 9:45 a.m. at St. Theresa's Parish, 5045 E. Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ, 85018.
